Jesus in the Talmud

May 29, 2008

For when they see that you, who worship the Christ whom they crucified, are reverently following their rituals, how can they fail to think that the rites they have performed are the best and that our ceremonies are worthless? For after you worship and adore at our mysteries, you run to the very men who destroy our rites. –St. John Chrysostom

From Publishers’ Weekly:

Will Peter Schaefer’s new book, Jesus in the Talmud (Mar.), be controversial? “I’m afraid so,” Schaefer told RBL. “That’s why I’m nervous.”

Schaefer, who heads up Princeton’s Judaic studies program, has collected and analyzed all the passages in the Talmud that apparently refer to the founder of Christianity, texts that were previously censored from Talmud editions for centuries. In his book he argues—against other scholars—that the scandalous passages indeed refer not to some other figure of ancient times but to the famous Jesus of Nazareth.

What exactly is so scandalous? How about Jesus punished in Hell for eternity by being made to sit in a cauldron of boiling excrement? That image appears in early manuscripts of the Babylonian Talmud, as does a brief account of Jesus’ trial and execution—not by the Romans but by the Jewish high court, the Sanhedrin. The Jewish community, to the extent Jews were even aware of these excised texts, has been content to let them remain obscure and unknown.

Schaefer, a distinguished German-born Christian scholar who describes classical rabbinic literature as “my first love,” has now definitively let the cat out of the bag. This undermines a widespread assumption that, of Judaism’s and Christianity’s respective sacred texts, only the Christian Gospels go out of their way to assail the rival faith, whereas Judaism’s classical texts refrain from similar attacks.

It seems fair to say now, however, that the Talmud is every bit as offensive to Christians as the Gospels are to Jews.

The Talmud’s scattered portrait of Jesus unapologetically mocks Christian doctrines including the virgin birth and the resurrection.

An excerpt from the Introduction follows:

With the sixth chapter (“Jesus’ Execution”) we return to the fate of Jesus himself. Here, a quite elaborate story—again only in the Babylonian Talmud—details the halakhic procedure of Jesus’ trial and execution: Jesus was not crucified but, according to Jewish law, stoned to death and then, as the ultimate postmortem punishment reserved for the worst criminals, hanged on a tree. This took place on the eve of Passover, which happened to be Sabbath eve (Friday). The reason for his execution was because he was convicted of sorcery and of enticing Israel into idolatry. As required by the Jewish law, a herald made the announcement of his death sentence—in order to allow for witnesses in his favor, in case there were some—but nobody came to his defense. Finally, he was regarded as being close to the Roman government, but this did not help him either. My comparison of this rabbinic narrative with the Gospels shows some remarkable congruencies and differences: most conspicuous among the former is the day before Passover as the day of Jesus’ trial and execution (which concurs with the Gospel of John) and among the latter is the rabbinic insistence on the fact that Jesus was indeed sentenced and executed according to Jewish and not to Roman law. I interpret this as a deliberate “misreading” of the New Testament, (re)claiming Jesus, as it were, for the Jewish people, and proudly acknowledging that he was rightly and legally executed because he was a Jewish heretic.

The story about Jesus’ five disciples (chapter 7) continues such charges. In contrast to the futile exercises of most scholars to find here some dark reminiscences of Jesus’ historical disciples, I read the story as a highly sophisticated battle with biblical verses, a battle between the rabbis and their Christian opponents, challenging the Christian claim that he is the Messiah and Son of God, that he was resurrected after his horrible death, and that this death is the culmination of the new covenant. Hence, as we shall see, this story, instead of adding just another bizarre facet to the fantastic rabbinic stories about Jesus, is nothing short of an elaborate theological discourse that foreshadows the disputations between Jews and Christians in the Middle Ages.

The most bizarre of all the Jesus stories is the one that tells how Jesus shares his place in the Netherworld with Titus and Balaam, the notorious archenemies of the Jewish people. Whereas Titus is punished for the destruction of the Temple by being burned to ashes, reassembled, and burned over and over again, and whereas Balaam is castigated by sitting in hot semen, Jesus’ fate consists of sitting forever in boiling excrement. This obscene story has occupied scholars for a long time, without any satisfactory solution. I will speculate that it is again the deliberate, and quite graphic, answer to a New Testament claim, this time Jesus’ promise that eating his flesh and drinking his blood guarantees eternal life to his followers. Understood this way, the story conveys an ironic message: not only did Jesus not rise from the dead, he is punished in hell forever; accordingly, his followers—the blossoming Church, which maintains to be the new Israel—are nothing but a bunch of fools, misled by a cunning deceiver.

The concluding chapter (“Jesus in the Talmud”) attempts to connect the various and multifarious aspects of the Jesus narrative in the rabbinic literature and to place them into historical perspective. Only when the fruitless search for fragments of information about the historical Jesus, hidden in the “ocean of the Talmud,” has been given up and when the right questions are asked, regardless of apologetic, polemic, or other considerations, can we discover the “historical truth” behind our sources: that they are literary answers to a literary text, the New Testament, given under very concrete historical circumstances. I will address the major topics that appear almost as leitmotifs in the texts—sex, magic, idolatry, blasphemy, resurrection, and the Eucharist—and place them in their contemporary, literary as well as historical, context.

Finally, since one of the most striking results of my inquiry is the difference in attitude of the Palestinian and the Babylonian sources, I will pose the question of why we find the most significant, radical, and daring statements about Jesus’ life and destiny in the Babylonian Talmud rather than in the Palestinian sources. In pursuing this question I will try to outline the historical reality of the Jews and the Christians living in the Sasanian Empire in Late Antiquity, in contrast to that of the Jews living in Palestine under Roman rule and subsequently under Christian rule. Then I will summarize the New Testament evidence as it emerges from our rabbinical texts and will again ask the concrete question of why the Gospel of John takes such a prominent place among references to the New Testament. In an appendix, I will address the problem of the manuscript tradition of the Babylonian Talmud and the phenomenon of censorship.

Army bosses support jihad, desecrate chapel

May 29, 2008

From WorldNetDaily:

U.S. soldiers stationed at Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo may be stunned to find three wooden crosses stripped from the exterior grounds of their chapel in coming weeks – and many never saw it coming.

Several high-ranking officers have met behind closed doors to discuss plans for the crosses. They have decided to remove, and perhaps destroy, the Christian symbols located outside Peacekeeper’s Chapel in the name of free exercise of religion.

Lt. Col. William Jenkins, 35th Infantry Division’s Kosovo Force 9 command chaplain, told WND, “The removal of the crosses … is bringing the chapel into line with long-standing regulations and policies that apply to every U.S. Army chapel around the world and that are supported by all faith groups in the U.S. Army.”

Jenkins cited the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution as validation for the cross removal, saying it guarantees every American the right to the free exercise of religion. He also referenced an Army directive that bans religious symbols from chapels:

[“]Distinctive religious symbols, such as crosses, crucifixes, the Star of David, menorah, and other religious symbols, will not be affixed or displayed permanently on the chapel exterior or grounds. (Army Reg. 165-1, 13-3.d)[“]

Army chapels are also required to be devoid of religious symbols on furnishings, such as altars, pulpits and lecterns.

“This is not a new regulation and exists to protect the free exercise of religion of all soldiers,” Jenkins said. “Army chapels are for all soldiers of all faith groups.”

Following a secret vote, several officers decided to take down the crosses as part of a “relandscaping” project. Only one person present at the meeting voted against the measure.

One person stationed in Kosovo became concerned about freedom of religious expression in the military after WND reported the Army deliberately shut down a chaplain’s Baptist service at Forward Operating Base Loyalty in Iraq. The soldier expressed agitation at a perceived double standard after an American sniper accused of shooting a Quran for target practice faced disciplinary action and removal from Iraq for desecrating the religious property.

“It is very discouraging as a Christian soldier to see our Army punish him for destroying a Quran, but then it pays a private company to destroy some crosses,” the soldier said. “I feel it is a slap in the face to me, my Lord and my freedom.”

Our unholy military leadership has banned our soldiers from evangelizing to Arabs, shooting Korans, or handling Korans without gloves. It is also presiding over the genocide of Assyrian Christians in Iraq.

McCain and nuclear war

May 28, 2008

From the New York Sun:

Mr. McCain said that, as president, he would consider changes to the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, a pact he opposed in 1999, that would make the Senate more likely to support it. He also said he would seek unilaterally to reduce America’s nuclear arsenal, including the Robust Nuclear Earth Penetrator, a program opposed by Congress but supported by the Bush administration.

The Arizona lawmaker also said he favored the creation of an international repository where all spent nuclear fuel could eventually be sent. Taking a position that could win him votes in Nevada, he said: “It is even possible that such an international center could make it unnecessary to open the proposed spent nuclear fuel storage facility at Yucca Mountain in Nevada.”

Meanwhile, from The Epoch Times:

The People’s Liberation Army conducted its first-ever concurrent military exercise operation to simulate a nuclear war. The maneuvers were conducted from midnight April 26 through midnight May 15, 2008.

Operation ’08-weiguo-20′

Military exercises simultaneously conducted in northern, middle, southwestern, and northwestern China were part of an operation code-named “08-weiguo-20.”This was the first organized military exercise operation of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) occurring after its 17th Congress and the 11th plenary session of the Political Consultative Conference. According to a high-ranking military official, judging from the scale of the engagement of the combined armed forces, the degree of sophistication of equipment, war strategy simulation, time, environment, and international concerns, the impact and significance of this exercise surpassed a military operation conducted by the regime in the spring and summer of 1996.

Primary Focus of the Military Exercise: To Simulate Nuclear War

The unique feature that distinguished this military exercise from others was the simulation of nuclear war. An attack and counterattack sequence was staged inside the Hongshagang underground military base in the Jinchang region of Gansu Province, and the Aerjinshan underground military base. The nuclear bombs used in the simulation had the power of about 1/500 of that of the bombs used in the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Chen Bingde, general chief of staff, and Jing Zhiyuan, a commanding officer, were present to supervise. This simulation was the main focus of this military exercise.

The plan for an international uranium repository is Russia’s. If McCain’s talk of disarmament is serious — as one should expect anyway, China is preparing for nuclear war –, he would be dangerous as Commander-in-Chief.

Jews for Jihads

May 26, 2008

Take Your Cross has covered Jews’ (especially “Reform” Jews’) affinity for their jihadist natural enemy, as have other blogs — perhaps most notably Militant Islam Monitor.

Now, from Frontpage Magazine’s Joe Kaufman and Militant Islam Monitor‘s editrix, Beila Rabinowitz:

Over time, an obvious rift has formed between members of the Islamic and Jewish faiths, mostly due to an intense hatred of Israel and not-so-subtle anti-Semitism emanating from the Muslim community. One fairly large group of Jews, the Reform Jewish Movement, has sought to change this, by extending an olive branch to its enemies. The result has been a strange partnership between the Jewish group and the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), an organization with a dangerous past – and present.

On the top of the “Interfaith” section of the ISNA website, one finds a picture of the National Director of ISNA, Sayyid Mohammad Syeed, shaking the hand of the President of the Union of Reform Judaism (URJ), Eric Yoffie. It’s no different than the handshake that took place between Yasser Arafat, the deceased ex-terrorist leader of the PLO, and Yitzhak Rabin, the deceased former Israeli Prime Minister, on the White House Lawn, in September of 1993. And like the ’93 handshake, its purported show of friendship is meaningless, if not offensive and dangerous.

In July of 1981, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) was incorporated in the state of Indiana. At the time, it shared its incorporating address with the Muslim Students Association (MSA), a group created by members of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) in 1963, and the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF), a Hamas financing center.

ISNA’s founders included a group of MSA alumni, who were looking for a social habitat following graduation. One of those founders was Sayyid Syeed, a former National President of the MSA.

Besides the MSA and ISNA, Syeed has been involved in a number of other radical Muslim organizations. He was Director of Academic Outreach for the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) and Editor-in-Chief of IIIT’s quarterly publication, the American Journal of Islamic Social Sciences (AJISS). He sat on the National Board of Advisors of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Executive Board of the American Muslim Council (AMC), and the Board of Advisory Editors of the Middle East Affairs Journal, a publication of the United Association for Studies and Research (UASR).

Also helping to found ISNA was a teaching assistant from North Carolina State University (NCSU) named Sami Al-Arian, who, two years prior, assisted in the creation of the violent Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).

As stated on MB scholar Yusuf Qaradawi’s Islam Online, Al-Arian “helped establish the largest grass roots organization in the U.S., the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) in 1981, and its many affiliates such as the Muslim Arab Youth Association (1977), the Islamic Association for Palestine (1981), Islamic Committee for Palestine (I.C.P), Islamic Community of Tampa (1987) and Islamic Academy of Florida (1992).” [The Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP) that is spoken of later became the American propaganda wing of Hamas, and the Islamic Committee for Palestine (ICP) and Islamic Academy of Florida (IAF) that are mentioned were PIJ fronts.]

Some quotes from ISNA National’s website, which are still found on it today, include:

“The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. ‘O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him.’”

“May Allah fight the jews and the christians. They took the graves of their Prophets as places of prostration. Two deens [religions] shall not co-exist in the land of the Arabs.”

“I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula and will not leave any but Muslim.”

“The Dajjal [Devil, Antichrist] would be followed by seventy thousand Jews of Isfahan wearing Persian shawls.”

“Ibn Umar reported that Allah’s Messnger (may peace be upon him) stoned to death the Jews, both male and female, who had committed adultery.”

The conference had taken place at the same time a federal trial concerning Hamas fundraising was being conducted in Texas, in which ISNA and its sister organization, the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT), were named as “unindicted co-conspirators.” During the trial, a Muslim Brotherhood document was entered into evidence that included a list of organizations said to be involved in the future destruction of the United States. The first name on the list was ISNA.
The document, which was dated May of 1991, stated, “The Ikhwan must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and G-d’s religion is made victorious over all other religions

ISNA had previously been investigated for possible financing of terrorism abroad. The investigation was launched in January of 2004 by the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, headed by Senator Charles Grassley, who stated in a letter to the IRS: “Many of these groups not only enjoy tax-exempt status, but their reputations as charities and foundations often allows them to escape scrutiny, making it easier to hide and move their funds to other groups and individuals who threaten our national security.”

Before the ISNA conference began, two United States Representatives, Peter Hoekstra of Michigan and Sue Myrick of North Carolina, called on the U.S. Justice Department to cancel its participation in the conference. In a letter signed by both legislators, they stated, “[W]e believe it is a grave mistake to provide legitimacy to an organization with extremist origins, leadership and a radical agenda.”

On December 16, 2007, President of ISNA, Ingrid Mattson, repaid Yoffie’s legitimization of her Islamist group by speaking at his Union for Reform Judaism Biennial Convention. A copy of her speech is found on URJ’s Biennial Blog. There, she stated, “Of course, it is our responsibility to reclaim Islam from the extremists and terrorists.” As demonstrated above, this was nothing more than empty rhetoric.

According to Mattson, in the summer of 1987, around the time of her Muslim conversion, she came across a book entitled Islam, by Fazlur Rahman. In it, Rahman wrote of an attack on a Jewish tribe that, in his estimation, was “occupying Medina” and that, as punishment for their “Jewish treachery,” they were “ruthlessly massacred.” He wrote that the “most sinister and heartless role was played by the ‘Hypocrites’ [Muslim traitors] who were no doubt in league with the Jews.” Of the book, Mattson stated, “His book sparked in me a keen desire to study the classical heritage of Islamic theology and law.”

Evidently, Rahman’s book had “sparked” much more in her, as she soon after would leave for Peshawar, Pakistan to do “relief” work. Peshawar, at the time, was the home base of the organization that would later become Al-Qaeda. For one year, from 1987 thru 1988, Mattson was the Director of Projects for Afghan Refugee Women. She operated out of Akora Khattak, a small town where dozens of Taliban leaders, including Taliban Commander Mullah Mohammed Omar, were educated at Darul Uloom Haqqania a.k.a. “University of Jihad.”

Today, Mattson continues to surround herself with radicals. Aside from her current role as President of a group tied to the extremist Muslim Brotherhood, in December of 2006 and January of 2007, Mattson participated in ‘Live Dialogues’ on Islam Online, a website that supports suicide bombings, mandates attacks against American troops, prescribes murder for homosexuals, and discusses how to behead human beings.

Also appearing on every ISNA web page concerning URJ is a graphic advertisement for Guidance Residential, containing the slogan, “Home Ownership the Sharia Way.” The “Sharia” or Islamic law that is alluded to, here, is the same Sharia that would render Jews and other non-Muslims as second-class citizens or worse.

As stated by Ingrid Mattson, in her speech to URJ, “By confronting the differences, we became aware that sometimes the Islam that was been taught in Muslim societies was not in harmony with the ethical teachings of the Qur’an and the Prophet Muhammad, but were, in fact, misogynistic, authoritarian or extremist views antithetical to true Islam.” Yet, these troublesome behaviors are the very things that are being portrayed and propagated by Mattson’s ISNA and those associated with it.

The Union of Reform Judaism prides itself on its liberal attitude of inclusiveness and diversity – the direct opposite of that of the Islamic Society of North America. And while ISNA’s top leader is female, she clearly does not represent the best interests of women or anyone else who is not a radical Muslim.

If URJ wishes to do anything with respect to ISNA, it should only be to denounce the group – a group that is working towards its destruction – not legitimize it by speaking at its functions or seeking its approval. The handshake between Eric Yoffie and Sayyid Syeed can never be removed from the annals of history, but the false premise upon which it is based should be repudiated immediately and abandoned forever – or at least until ISNA is finally shut down.

Russia and nuclear jihad

May 25, 2008

From Frontpage Magazine:

Al-Qaeda has been increasing its recruitment for nuclear-skilled workers. Al-Qaeda-in-Iraq leader Abu Ayyub al-Masri issued a public call in September 2006 for “people of distinguished skills and high levels of expertise…particularly…nuclear scientists and explosives engineers” to work with al-Qaeda-in-Iraq. The mainstream media and the Democratic officeholders ignored this proclamation, because the counterinsurgency effort in Iraq is supposed to be a “distraction” from the “real” war on terror, which to them presumably would not include a mushroom cloud over Chicago.

The only good news is that terrorists cannot make HEU or plutonium; they have to get it from somewhere else. HEU is not found in nature and has to be juiced up from normal uranium. For that reason, HEU is highly prized on the world’s black markets. How will Adnan Shukrijumah get hold of this HEU (or even plutonium) to assemble into working bombs?

He has a range of options. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has documented 15 incidents of theft and smuggling of small amounts of separated plutonium or highly enriched uranium confirmed by the nations involved. But these 15 cases represent the tip of the iceberg of what has actually occurred. So there is always just approaching the right people and buying it—not an easy task, but not an impossible one either.

Nuclear terror expert Matthew Bunn testified last month that “Nuclear weapons or their essential ingredients exist in hundreds of buildings in dozens of countries, with security measures that range from excellent to appalling – in some cases, no more than a night watchman and a chain-link fence.”

In recent months, shadowy surveillance teams have been reported scoping out secret nuclear weapons facilities in Russia. They probably don’t have to be: In February 2006, Russian citizen Oleg Khinsagov was arrested in Georgia (along with three Georgian accomplices) with some 100 grams of 89 percent enriched HEU, claiming that he had kilograms more available for sale. We can’t know how many thefts that occurred were never detected. Dr. Bunn told Senator Lieberman that “it is a sobering fact that nearly all of the stolen HEU and plutonium that has been seized over the years had never been missed before it was seized.”

The experts are not talking about vague probabilities far into the future. Former Clinton Secretary of Defense William Perry and former Assistant Secretary of Defense Graham Allison are among those who have estimated that chance at more than 50 percent over the next decade. That is, two respected experts in the field believe that the nuclear destruction of one or more American urban centers is more probable than not in the very near future.

Unfortunately, this will probably be followed by far worse:

Col. Stanislav Lunev, a Russian military defector, was perfectly suited to assist in the direction of advanced pre-strike operations in which coordination with Chinese forces would also be necessary. Is this why he was posted to Washington in the Gorbachev era? In a real nuclear war, Lunev once hinted during a November 1998 conversation, there would be a wave of terrorist attacks in the U.S., presumably from Arab fanatics. Lunev said, “If you read in the news that a nuclear weapon has been detonated on American soil by Arab or other terrorists, don’t believe it.”

“Why not?” I asked.

“Because it will be Spetsnaz,” he replied. “No other organization is sophisticated enough to produce this result.”

According to Lunev, there will be a Russian commando deployment of several thousand men to the United States in advance of a nuclear missiles strike. These forces would blind the United States and decapitate the leadership so that Russian preparations for a strike would go undetected by U.S. authorities. (I suspect that conditions of internal unrest, including inner city riots, would provide “cover” for these commando operations.)

Lunev explained some of the technical difficulties involved in moving compact nuclear warheads into the U.S., suggesting that only the Russians have the organization, technology and special skills to succeed. The machine tools for making compact nuclear weapons, and for their trigger mechanisms, only exist in a few places on earth. He also dismissed the notion that Russia’s tactical nuclear weapons were vulnerable to theft. He told me that the warheads are stored without their triggering mechanisms (permissive action codes). Osama bin Laden could spend all his money on a warhead and he still would have nothing.

The significance of Lunev’s statements regarding Russian war planning have not been fully appreciated. Americans tend to think of nuclear war talk as “crazy gibberish.” I discussed this fact with Lunev, who found the American reaction to nuclear war illogical. When I told him that most U.S. strategists regarded nuclear weapons as impractical he looked at me and asked, “But why?”

In August 1998 I asked Lunev if Russia or China could defeat the U.S. in a war. Lunev said, “No.” But he added that Russia and China together could almost assuredly defeat the U.S. I asked him for a time frame. He said Russia and China could win right then, in August 1998. Lunev said the combination of Chinese manpower and Russian missile power would be irresistible in his estimation. The U.S. would be on the losing end. This a striking pronouncement from a man who was trained in the Soviet “operational art of war,” and who is a specialist on China.

Lunev was fully aware, at the time, of the low state of Russia’s conventional readiness in 1998 (which has since been increased as the result of the Chechin exercises). The Russian and Chinese military thinking is very different from our own in terms of preparations for war. In discussing these factors with Lunev, I noted the American belief that military success depends on logistics. Lunev immediately contradicted me. “No,” he said firmly. “Success depends on achieving surprise.” This is a striking formulation, and very Russian in its essence.

The facts are simple: The West lost the Cold War, Communist rule has never ended in the Warsaw Bloc, and the Communists support al-Qaeda and Hezbollah (in keeping with Yuri Andropov’s plan for anti-American jihad).

persecution of Christians in Norway

May 25, 2008

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” Matthew 5:10-12

From WorldNetDaily:

Two preachers, including an American who specializes in delivering the message of the Gospel in public places, have been arrested and face a July trial for carrying a sign telling people about Jesus at a freedom celebration in Norway.

Larry Keffer, who works through the Biblical Research Center in Tampa, Fla., was accompanied by Norwegian evangelist Petar Keseljevic when both were arrested for sharing the Gospel along a parade route in Oslo, Norway, according to officials with the International Human Rights Group.

Keffer told WND the situation developed because police treated the preachers as if the nation didn’t recognize individual speech rights. He noted that a critic attacked Keseljevic while police were watching, and officers did nothing.

He also noted that his taping caught what appears to be a man stealing something from a parade fan, (at about 5:19 on the second video) but police were concentrating too much on stifling the Gospel message to see it.

“It’s ironic,” he told WND. “Here’s Norway celebrating a day of freedom and independence and the cops walk right by a true criminal. They can’t see him.”

Norway doesn’t seem to mind its rampant Islamic rapists, but treads very delicately — so as not to offend the Asian lads. It also fawns over Hamas, while our KGB Secretary of State praises the Eurabian dhimmis for doing so.

The sight of two Christians preaching the Gospel blinds the Norwegian police with rage, leading the citizenry to assault and to curse the Christians, and the Norwegian police to arrest the innocent.

Orthodox Jews in Israel burn Gospels, leaving Muslims and Korans intact

May 21, 2008

From the Jerusalem Post:

The burning of hundreds of New Testaments by yeshiva students in Or Yehuda last week was regrettable and unplanned, the city’s deputy mayor, the man who spurred the students to act, told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.

Deputy Mayor Uzi Aharon of Shas used the opportunity of speaking to the Post, which publishes a monthly Christian Edition, to apologize to Christians worldwide, saying he hoped the incident would not inflame tensions between Jews and Christians.

Following the publication of the story on Tuesday, however, many messianic Jewish and other Christian groups expressed grave concern over the increasingly violent nature of anti-missionary activity in Israel.

Aharon had a very busy Tuesday. In the morning, Ma’ariv ran a story on how he organized to retrieve and burn hundreds of New Testaments given to Ethiopian Jews in his city by local messianic Jews. By 9 a.m. he was on an Army Radio news-talk show defending his actions, which he called “purging the evil among us.”

At 10:30 he was on Channel 2’s morning news show saying that Ethiopian immigrants in Or Yehuda were being encouraged to go against Judaism by messianic Jews. “We need to stop being ashamed of our Jewishness and to fight those who are breaking the law by missionizing against us,” he said.

But by the early afternoon he had already been interviewed by Russian, Italian and French TV, explaining to their highly offended audiences back home how he had not meant for the Bibles to be burned, and trying to undo the damage caused by the news [and photographs] of Jews burning New Testaments.

But then he also told The Associated Press that he didn’t condemn the Bible burning, calling it a “commandment.”

According to Calev Myers, a lawyer representing messianic Jews in Israel, the incident in Or Yehuda was an “illegal act” committed by Aharon and his yeshiva charges. Myers added that there was growing institutionalized discrimination against messianic Jews in Israel.

“Israelis have to understand something: Messianic Jews here have strong ties to American evangelical Christians, and there are hundreds of millions of people in the world who see the burning of the New Testament as a very serious issue. The New Testament is believed in by hundreds of millions of people. It is not in Israel’s national interest to allow the burning of their holy book,” Myers told the Post.

They should have burned the Koran instead; that takes courage these days. This will merely — if it has any effect — alienate Israel’s American Christian-Zionist supporters.

While Talmudic Judaism has always been a form of hostility to Christianity, it is high time that the Pharisees turned this hostility elsewhere. The rapid growth of Israel’s Muslim population is an enormous security problem for the tiny nation. Rather than burning the Word of God and alienating their American well-wishers in the process, these foolish cowards could be forming their own paramilitary organizations to defend themselves against their homicidal neighbors’ “holy war”.
